Teachers' guide

I. Learning Goals

The students will know:
- The names and purposes of the 12 major Greek gods and goddesses.
- The names and purposes of 10 minor Greek gods and goddesses.
- The names and legends of major Greek heroes.
- At least 6 of the 12 tasks of Hercules.

The students should be able to:
- Make connections between the Greek cultural values and modern United States cultural values.
- Understand the significance of the Greek gods, goddesses and heroes to the past and modern Greek society.

1. Understands that specific individuals and the values those individuals held had an impact on history

Standard 5: Understands the characteristics and merits of one's own artwork and the artwork of others
Level III (Grade 5-8)
1. Distinguishes among multiple purposes for creating works of art
2. Understands possible contemporary and historic meanings in specific artworks
3. Understands how one's own artworks, as well as artworks from various eras and cultures, may elicit a variety of responses
